Optimal stock–enhancement of a spatially distributed renewable resource

چکیده

Abstract We study the economic management of a renewable resource, stock which is spatially distributed and moves over discrete or continuous spatial domain. In contrast to standard harvesting models where agent can control take-out from stock, we consider case optimal enhancement. other words, model an who is, either because ecological concerns incentives, interested in conservation enhancement abundance may foster its growth by some costly stock–enhancement activity (e.g., cultivation, breeding, fertilizing, nourishment). By investigating problem with infinite time horizon both (1D 2D) domains, show that policy feature heterogeneous (or patterned) steady states. numerically compute global bifurcation structure time-dependent paths govern system initial state patterned state. Our findings extend previous results on class systems important applications, such as design restoration areas.

An Experimental Analysis of Optimal Renewable Resource Management: the Fishery‡

Abstract This paper investigates experimentally the extraction-decisions of a sole-owner of a fishery, the population dynamics of which behave according to the standard deterministic logistic growth model. Four treatments were implemented which differed in the level of information supplied to the experimental subjects. The theoretical solution was used to evaluate the behaviour of the subjects ...

Playing games against nature: optimal policies for renewable resource allocation

In this paper we introduce a class of Markov decision processes that arise as a natural model for many renewable resource allocation problems. Upon extending results from the inventory control literature, we prove that they admit a closed form solution and we show how to exploit this structure to speed up its computation. We consider the application of the proposed framework to several problems...

Architecting methodology for spatially and temporally distributed resource extraction systems

This paper presents a framework aimed at supporting the decision-making process for the preliminary design of system architectures for the extraction of spatially and temporally distributed resources. The goal of the research is to provide a tool to identify “global best” architectures for resource extraction “systems of systems,” which usually differ from the sum of “local best” systems. The f...

Comments on "On optimal control of spatially distributed systems

We thank the author in [1] for careful reading of our paper and pointing out the errors. It is very unfortunate that both of us and the reviewers missed these errors. In [2], the notion of spatially-decaying (SD) matrices is introduced. These are classes of infinite matrices defined by the off-diagonal decay of their entries. Families of coupling characteristic functions (e.g. exponential and a...

Optimal management of a renewable resource utilized by a population with taxation as a control variable∗

Abstract. A dynamical model is proposed and analyzed to discuss the effect of population on a resource biomass by taking into account the crowding effect. It is assumed that the resource biomass, which has commercial importance, is subjected to harvesting. The harvesting effort is assumed to be a dynamical variable and taxation is being used as a control variable. The optimal harvesting policy ...
